This is a collaborative project that explores the idea of transparency through sourcing, making, wearing and communicating. It includes a series of short films that compare and connect our individual practices.
These films do not focus solely on the ‘productive’ aspects of the project. They embrace ‘unproductive’ encounters such as feelings of frustration and distraction or moments of clarity in the shower or on a walk, all of which contributed equally to our final studio outcomes.
The series comprises of four films, each titled with excerpts from our online conversations throughout the project. They focus on a specific stage of our making; materiality, process, wearability and communication.
Although the series appears to follow a standard order of production, there are elements within the styling and editing of each film that question the chronology of this process. Repetition of images and clips creates a common thread and alludes to the idea that the process is not necessarily linear but exists in a series of movements back and fourth and around in circles.
Through this project runs a constant dialogue. This is evident more overtly in the excerpts from phone call recordings and online messages that feature on the landing and menu page. Conversation is more subtly alluded to in the film through the amalgamation of footage that show our individual process as well as shots include both our outcomes. The written and visual dialogue contribute to a deep and meaningful experience for the viewer. They work together to develop a sense of vulnerability and intimacy behind our process and projects in order to encourage emotional connections and reflections.

This film explores the concepts of opposition, fragmentation and observation. It depicts a selection of opposites through the juxtaposition of; light and dark; abstraction and detail; highlights and shadows; tangible and intangible presences; texture and silhouette; and positive and negative space. These subjects appear only as fragments, each shot revealing just a glimpse of a moment or movement. The comparison of these instances are representative of two lives existing separately through one time.
We recognised how these unprecedented times have skewed and shifted the way we live. Acknowledging how similar our daily routines have become we saw a unique opportunity for comparison and devised a list of common activities. The chronological order of the scenes not only provided content but acted to signify the organic passing of time. Although this wasn’t the primary focus of our film we felt it provided a framework to guide our process and created a natural narrative for the film. We then worked independently of each other in order to foster individual interpretations of the established activities. Focusing on light, shadow, space, texture, silhouette and framing we attempted to capture the moments of beauty that arose in the mundane.
Once we had collected our footage we reconvened to compare the similarities and differences in our recordings. We paid particular attention to the nuances in our individual styles and intended to highlight through the editing process. The composition of the footage acts as to mirror our experiences and commentary on the seemingly symmetrical lives we are currently living. The editing of the film reflects the constant conversation we were having throughout the process and the style of conversations we are having throughout this time as a whole. The audio serves to enhances the idea of the spoken and unspoken dialogue between us.
This film is less about selling a product and more about selling a brand. It is designed to embody the essence of a brand, lineup or concept. We imagine it being played alongside a body of work to give it visual context. It could be used on websites, social media platforms as well as physical and virtual exhibitions and showcases. We believe this is particularly relevant considering the increasing shift towards the digital.
